Sherryl Calliste-Thegg is the visionary founding executive director of the SPICE of the Caribbean Association of GA, Inc. (SOCAga), a leading non-profit organization that, since its establishment in 2015, has become a celebrated cornerstone of the global Caribbean community. Marking its 10th year of service in 2025, SOCAga stands as a testament to Sherryl's unwavering dedication to promoting and sharing the vibrant cultural heritage of her homeland, the "Spice Isle" ~ Grenada.
Born in Grenada, West Indies, Sherryl’s journey led her to Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 11 with her family. Her commitment to education saw her earn a degree in Business Administration and a certificate in Computer Information Science from Pace University. Her professional career began in New York at William Esty Advertising Agency, where she excelled as a Production Biller, becoming the lead biller for numerous print advertising accounts.
A significant chapter began in 1987 when Sherryl and her family relocated to Decatur, Georgia. Here, she transitioned into the banking sector, managing several Real Estate bank-managed accounts. Embracing her entrepreneurial spirit and love for sports, Sherryl and her family opened Sports Stuff in 1993, the first minority-owned business in Stone Mountain Village. This venture perfectly married her passion for competitive sports and business.
Sherryl’s deep involvement with the Atlanta Caribbean community began by attending local functions, quickly diversifying her engagement. In 1996, alongside fellow Grenadians, she co-founded the cultural group "A Touch of Spice." This group performed at countless community and church events, including the Cherry Blossom festival in Conyers, showcasing Grenadian culture. Following the devastation of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, Sherryl was instrumental in registering the cultural group as an Association, which was crucial for soliciting and distributing aid to her afflicted homeland. She subsequently served as the Vice President of the Grenada Atlanta Association until 2013.
